This week, in a necropolis in the town of Sozopol, two skeletons with iron stakes through their hearts were unearthed. The iron stakes indicate that people feared the individuals would rise up from the dead as vampires, a not altogether uncommon belief in medieval Bulgaria; and this is not the first discovery of such skeletons. For some reason this particular finding has swept the Internet, appearing in quite a few online articles.
